Our Blogs go Global

One of our school's main goals is technology integration in every class.
We all know that our young students are digital natives who
not only greatly enjoy learning through various online tools
but will also need to be prepared for the technologically advanced
world of their future workplace.
Ένας από τους σημαντικότερους στόχους του σχολείου μας είναι η ενσωμάτωση των νέων τεχνολογιών στην διδασκαλία.
Όλοι ξέρουμε ότι οι νέοι μαθητές είναι αυτόχθονες της τεχνολογίας
που όχι μόνο απολαμβάνουν πολύ να μαθαίνουν χρησιμοποιώντας νέα ηλεκτρονικά εργαλεία,
αλλά θα χρειαστεί επίσης να είναι έτοιμοι για τον τεχνολογικά απαιτητικό χώρο της μελλοντικής τους εργασίας. 

Blogs have become one of our most valuable tools. Besides the uniquely bilingual school blog,
with the school news and teaching ideas, we have also created an amazing blog for each class.
We are always eager to help our friends from abroad to benefit from our experince,
so Mrs Kyrikakis, the Headteacher presented in EVPD webinar on Blogging in Education.
Τα ιστολόγια (blogs) έχουν γίνει ένα από τα πιο πολύτιμα εργαλεία μας. 
Εκτός από το κύριο blog του σχολείου, που έχει την πρωτοποριακή ιδιαιτερότητα να είναι δίγλωσσο,
οι εκπαιδευτικοί μας έχουν δημιουργήσει ιστολόγια για κάθε τάξη, όπου οι μαθητές βρίσκουν 
άπειρα νέα ερεθίσματα για να είναι σε επαφή με την γλώσσα και όταν δεν είναι στην τάξη 
αλλά και ένα χώρο για να εκθέτουν την δουλειά τους. 
Η κυρία Κυρικάκη παρουσίασε τα πλεονεκτήματα της χρήσης ιστολογίου στην ξενόγλωσση τάξη στο webinar που διοργανώθηκε από το EVPD στις ΗΠΑ.

Biomes-The Cradles of Life

This year our B1+ class has a brand new project in mind: we are collaborating with St Mark's School in India and Meadowcreek High School in Georgia, USA to design and create a webside that will take part in the international Global Virtual Classroom contest.

Αυτή την χρονιά η Β1+ έχει στα σκαριά ένα ολοκαίνουριο διεθνές project: Συνεργαζόμαστε με το ιδιωτικό σχολείο St Marks στην Ινδία και το Γυμνάσιο της πόλης Meadowcreek στην Γεωργία των ΗΠΑ για να σχεδιάσουμε και να δημιουργήσουμε από το μηδέν έναν ιστότοπο που θα λάβει μέρος σε έναν διεθνή διαγωνισμό!

We've decided to present the beauty of our planet and call our site "Biomes-The Cradles of Life".
Αποφασίσαμε να παρουσιάσουμε την ομορφιά του πλανήτη μας και ονομάσαμε τον ιστότοπό μας "Οικοσυστήματα - Τα Λίκνα της Ζωής"


Part of our work was to create a videp presentation of our class....
Μέρος της αποστολής μας είναι να φτιάξουμε ένα video όπου παρουσιάζουμε το σχολείο μας....

As collaboration is of the essence to win, we've been  in constant contact with the other two teams to decide the subject, title, content, design, and all the big and small details that will make the webside a winner of the prestigiouw award. The best part for us is that all this collaboration is in English, which is an excellent practice and constant exposure to the language and culture.
Η συνεργασία μεταξύ των ομάδων είναι κριτήριο  επιτυχίας στον διαγωνισμό κι έτσι είμαστε σε συνεχή επαφή με τις άλλες ομάδες για να αποφασίσουμε το θέμα, τον τίτλο, το περιεχόμενο, το design και όλες τις άλλες μικρές λεπτομέρειες που θα κάνουν τον δικό ιστότοπο να κερδίσει τον διαγωνισμό! Τι πιο τέλειος τρόπος να μάθουμε την γλώσσα και την κουλτούρα! 

We are also great artists and love to show the world our artistic skills so we created lots of amazing paintings to share in the site....

A nice, white welcome back to school!

A New Year, a new beginning! It was even better when we woke up today to see thich, white snowflakes chasing each other to brighten up our day!

May the whole year be full of such little, delightful surprises. May we be alert to their beauty and willing to enjoy them!

 Καινούρια χρονιά, μια νέα αρχή! Ήταν υπέροχο που ξυπνήσαμε σήμερα και είδαμε παχιές, κατάλευκες χιονονιφάδες να κυνηγιούνται για να φωτίσουν τη μέρα μας!

Ας είναι όλο μας ο χρόνος γεμάτος τέτοιες μικρές, υπέροχες εκπλήξεις. Ας είμαστε κι εμείς άγρυπνοι να τις αναγνωρίσουμε

και πρόθυμοι να τις απολαύσουμε!

Sri Lanka Cuisine - Rice and Curry

A large bowl of rice, most often boiled, but frequently fried. Sometimes Kiribath, rice cooked in coconut milk, is served. 
A curry of meat, most often chicken or fish. The spicy sauce is usually quite thin and has a coconut milk base. 
Dahl, spiced lentils 
A vegetable curry, perhaps of green beans, jackfruit or leeks. 
Papadums, a thin crisp wafer made from legume or rice flour and served as a side dish. 
Sambals, which are fresh chutney side dishes; they may include red onion, chili, grated coconut or lime juice, and are often the hottest part of the meal. 
Apart from the rice, each bowl contains only quite small portions, but as in most of tropical Asia, if a bowl is emptied, it is immediately refilled.

Although Sri Lankan food is similar to south Indian cuisine in its use of chilli, cardamom, cumin, coriander and other spices, it has a distinctive taste, and uses ingredients like dried Maldive fish which are local to the area. It is also much hotter than most south Indian cuisine, and many spicy Sri Lankan preparations are believed to be among the world's hottest in terms of chilli content. While native Sri Lankans are born into this cuisine and develop a healthy tolerance to spicy food, many visitors and tourists to the country often find the spiciness excessive.

 

The Sunny Thought Project 2012-13

As 2012 draws to its end, I look back and consider the changes made, the changes still to be made. It was certainly the year of opening our classes' Windows to the World!  It's been a year of regular inquiry into connected learning, network learning and the quest for new collaborations from the global village that is now our planet.

Rather than making predictions for 2013 or lamenting what was not achieved in 2012, I'd like to start the new year by thinking back and building on one of our most successful international projects, actually our first ever, The Sunny Thought Project. It is a project that helped students from the whole planet develop their sense of gratitude for what they have and look on the bright side of their lives.
This year we go on with what we want the FUTURE to be like and it is us the students of today who will shape tomorrow!

Με αγάπη από την Δανία...

Οι φίλοι μας από την Δανία μοιράστηκαν μαζί μας την υπέροχη θέα από το παράθυρο της τάξης τους! Ευχαριστούμε τάξη 2Α. Ελπίζουμε να έχουμε κι εμείς χιονισμένες μέρες στις διακοπές μας!

The Mathematic Olympiad in action!!!

Taking part in the Mathletics was no easy task. We had to check each level activities to make sure they correspond to the students' level. That was a job for a Greek school teacher and Mr Zovoilis, a Primary school teacher and father of two of our students, willingly volunteered to help us out.

Students  7 το 12 years old responded to the invitation. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to enjoy the challenge of their beloved subject, Maths, in their new language, English.
It's amazing that some of the activities didn't even have to be explained as our students got the meaning of what was asked in English!

We are keep our fingers crossed now, in expectation of the results.

H Μαθηματική Ολυμπιάδα στην Πράξη!
Η συμμετοχή στην Μαθηματική Ολυμπιάδα δεν ήταν και τόσο απλό θέμα. Έπρεπε να βεβαιωθούμε για το ποιο επίπεδο αντιστοιχούσε στην ηλικία και το μαθησιακό επίπεδο των παιδιών. Αυτό ήταν δουλειά ενος δασκάλου Δημοτικού και ο κος Ζωβοιλής, εκπαιδευτικός  και πατέρας δυο μαθητών μας ευχαρίστως προσφέρθηκε να βοηθήσει.

Μαθητές 7 έως 12 χρόνων ανταποκρίθηκαν στην πρόσκληση. Ήταν μια μοναδική ευκαιρία να απολαύσουν την πρόκληση του αγαπημένου τους μαθήματος στη νέα τους γλώσσα, τα αγγλικά.
Είταν εκπληκτικό οτι δεν κάποιες ασκήσεις δεν χρειάστηκε καν να εξηγηθούν γιατί τα παιδια κατανόησαν τι ζητούνταν στα αγγλικά!

Τώρα περιμένουμε με ανυπομονησία τα αποτελέσματα!
